In this interview, Chris Mackey shares his journey, insights about his professional work, story of Ladybug tools development, roadblocks in AEC, trends in computational design, ml applications in aec along with advice to students and professionals. Chris is a co-founder of the Ladybug Tools software for environmental design, which he regularly develops, applies and teaches to thousands of professionals and students across the globe. Chris has added many features to Ladybug Tools including many of the project’s functions for energy modeling, thermal comfort, HVAC sizing, building energy simulation visualization, and detailed envelope heat flow modeling (with LBNL Therm + Window). He oversees the maintenance of the Ladybug + Honeybee Legacy Plugins and is currently in the process of bolstering the Ladybug core with visuaization + comfort capabilities, implementing energy modeling capabilities in the Honeybee core, and building Dragonfly to link Ladybug Tools to macro-scale modeling engines and data sets. #ladybug #aec

In this interview, Chris Williams shares his journey, insights about his professional work, explains key concepts important for shell structures along with advice to students and professionals. Chris Williams is an Artistic Professor at the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Chalmers University. Chris joined Ted Happold’s group at Arup in 1972 where he worked on Frei Otto’s Multihalle gridshells in Mannheim and was responsible for the structural analysis and physical model testing. His research interests hinge on the relationship between geometry and structural action as applied to towers, bridges and fabric and shell structures, as well as the response of these flexible structures to wind.
